Business-assessment questions for today’s entrepreneurs:

  1. What business issues keep you awake at night? Have they persisted for more than 6 months? More than a year?

  2. Have “solutions” been implemented yet the problems remain? Or has the “solution” been forgotten already by the organization?

  3. When was the last time your business reached a significant period of growth — successfully? Are you properly positioned to do it now?

  4. How clearly have you stated your business goals? Are they easily understood by your entire organization? Do you have well defined, proven methods to achieve your goals?

  5. Have you implemented relevant tracking systems to consistently, adequately track key processes (i.e., Customer retention, turnover, lead time, quality, cost, supplier performance, margins, lost sales, etc.)? Or are you inundated with reports that are minimally useful?

  6. Do your managers spend at least 25% of their day working on performance improvement? Or does daily work and frequent emergencies consume nearly all their time?

  7. Are your employees lacking motivation or skills to take your organization to the next level? How long has it been since you invested in their professional development — or yours? Do you have the right employees in the right jobs?

  8. Do you feel like you are working too hard? Can you leave the office on vacation and avoid interruptions? When was the last time you could relax and devote time to non-business pursuits?

These are common roadblocks in entrepreneurial driven organizations.
